ISL is highly scalable, secure, robust, light weight, and easy-to-use Integration framework for: Agents, Services, Web Services, Objects, HLA Models & Simulations, and more .. |
Intelligent Service Layer (ISL) is an advanced and powerful
integration and interoperability solution for developing
distributed services and agent applications.
An
auto generation tool is included to reduce efforts for
wrapping third party applications and services. For
example, using this tool enables the Google search engine
to be wrapped in less than 15 minutes.
GITI offers technical support for ISL and world-class
integration services to rapidly and efficiently develop
interoperability and intelligent systems solutions.

ISL
Overview:
This framework was originally
developed for the Defense Advanced Research Projects
Agency (DARPA) as the CoABS Grid. In recent years,
GITI has continued to evolve and enhance the original
CoABS technology into ISL.
GITI's
integration framework has been evaluated and used by
over 400 organizations to address integration and interoperability
for many applications, some of which are listed below
(also see Case
Studies):
-
Enterprise
Information Systems using J2EE and Web Services to add
dynamic discovery of resources where resources may not
always be available.
-
Integration of best of breed commercial
off the shelf knowledge discovery and visualization
products for the Intelligence Community.
-
Joint and Coalition C4ISR systems to rapidly establish
interoperability among diverse military systems.
-
Military Services to create an integrated view of the
battle space by integrating large number of sensors that
include Predator, P3, and many other sensor types.
-
Integration of HLA compliant simulation results for
the Modeling & Simulation Community.
-
Homeland Security applications where
a large number of
sensors and information sources from Internet or databases must be continuously monitored to detect patterns
and critical events.
ISL is
a light-weight run-time foundation that integrates heterogeneous
agent-based systems, object-based applications, and
legacy systems. It includes a method-based application
programming interface to register agents and services,
advertise their capabilities, discover agents based
on their capabilities, and send messages between agents. ISL also provides a logging service, to log both message
traffic and other information; a security service to
provide authentication, encryption, and secure communication;
and event notification when agents register, de-register,
or change their advertised attributes.

ISL
Provides:
-
A foundation to easily wrap legacy systems
-
Full interoperability with J2EE and Web Services
-
A network for distributed, registry, discovery and runtime
integration
-
Advertise and modify registered capabilities
-
Sophisticated search function for identifying resources
-
Discovery services / agents based on templates, predicates
-
Event notification for registration / modifications
-
Automatic logging of agent messages
-
Message encryption and service authentication
-
Administration tools
-
Publish and subscribe services
-
Visualization of agents interactions

Benefits:
The simple distributed object framework of ISL enables
developers to cost effectively wrap existing applications
and make them available through a common decentralized
registry. Automated delivery of vital information and
data to geographically dispersed forces allows them to
easily and quickly synchronize operational activities.
The ISL high-performance, distributed framework integrates
disparate technologies into a highly effective, coordinated
information system.
Using
ISL enables organizations to develop intelligent application
software by incorporating intelligent software agents.
