Critical Mission Data over RTI (CMDR) is an effective solution for establishing interoperability
between any HLA compliant simulation and real-world C4I
systems. CMDR can place critical analysis from models
such as JSAF, MINT, CBWPN or NWPN at the warfighter's
fingertips.
CMDR can be combined with ISL to produce HLA-compliant
Agents. CMDR is used to transfer data between RTI/HLA
and ISL-enabled environments using protocols such
as XML, DAML, and SOAP. CMDR can advertise federate
capabilities to ISL Agents using the ISL Look
Up Services.

CMDR Overview:Imagine
having the capability to transform any simulation, at
run-time, into an intelligent application capable of
publishing and importing its data and interacting with
intelligent software agents. Think about using that
data in other systems on your network. Now, imagine
building new applications by importing data and services
that are available on the network to meet your immediate
requirements. What could you do if the simulation systems
available within your enterprise dynamically interacted
with each other?
Global
InfoTek has developed CMDR to make this reality. Leveraging
the power of the ISL framework, CMDR quickly and
easily integrates C4I, Simulation, and other systems
with the RTI. Once integrated with your application,
CMDR adds a publish-subscribe mechanism by which applications
can search for needed information and request updates
for data elements of interest.
CMDR
has been used successfully in federations which include
the following systems:
-
GCCS
-
ITEM
-
JSAF
-
JCATS
-
OASES

What
Can CMDR Do?
CMDR facilitates interaction with HLA-compliant applications.
The product itself is a suite of Java applications and
libraries which enable developers to quickly federate
their systems using HLA-compliant techniques. CMDR provides
a general framework for interacting with the standard
RTI libraries. The current CMDR implementation has been
tested with several versions of the RTI libraries. CMDR
is a simple, comprehensive solution to your HLA data
sharing and interoperability problems. It is easily
adaptable to a number of different needs.

Integration with Software Agents:
CMDR interfaces
your current systems with software agents using the
ISL framework. ISL agents can dynamically discover
and interact with an HLA federation using CMDR as a
gateway. Using its agent interface, CMDR dynamically
publishes the available data model (FOM) to the network.
Agents are allowed to register for updates to this data.
ISL agents can also push changes into the federation
data model using the CMDR agent interface.

Multiple
Federations:
Using CMDR agents and the ISL,
it is possible to bring data from multiple HLA federations
into a single application. By connecting each CMDR instance
to a different set of simulations, you can publish several
separate data models to your network. By registering
with each of the CMDR agents, you can pull data from
all your federations into a single application. This
makes the integration of simulations that were written
for use in different situations quite feasible without
the need to modify the original applications.

Record
and Playback:
As an HLA utility, CMDR provides the
capability to record and then playback, with complete
fidelity, the data and interactions of an HLA federation.
When used in this way, CMDR creates a record of all
Entities, Attribute Updates and Interactions which occur
during recording. HLA data can then be replayed off-line,
at normal speed or using a user-selected factor for
time. The potential this provides is enormous.

Software
Library:
As a software library, CMDR is capable
of interfacing your application with virtually any RTI
federation. Your application code is abstracted from
the low-level RTI structures and data formats using
the CMDR Application Programming Interface (API). CMDR
adjusts to data model changes at run-time, reducing
the need to recode your application when the Federation
Object Model (FOM) changes.
